Vimercate (Milano) - Italy, 2008
With Davide Macullo Architect
The building, situated on an old industrial area (Barbour industries textiles) in the main park of Vimercate historical centre, rises up from the skyline of the ancient town and sets itself as a kind of signal between the old town and the new urban development to the south. The new tower shows an extended square floor plan cut through its diagonal at different levels to light the volume and to offer wide views and open spaces to the different units at the different levels. At the same time the cut volume splits its mass on a different scale that relates itself with the ancient structures present in town (medieval towers, palaces and bridges). An extensive use of cultivated terraces recreates miniatures of the green landscape on the different floors.
